Brisbane Roar officially kicked off their pre-season match schedule with a friendly against Football Queensland Premier League side Logan Lightning, at the Logan Metro Sports Park on Wednesday evening.
This was the first match to be played on the training field at this recently-completed venue.
A number of new signings featured in the maych, however it was last season’s star Frenchman Eric Bautheac who stole the show with a brace in the second half securing their comfortable 4-0 victory.
The Roar went ahead in the 15th minute through Young Roar defender Aaron Reardon who ventured forward, slid into the area and found the bottom corner.
Another Young Roar team member Oliver Duncan netted his first senior goal for the Club, to double the lead just before half-time.
The lead was extended to 3 as Bautheac fired a tracer-bullet of a free-kick into the bottom corner early in the second half. He finished off with a brace in the 85th minute.
“We’ve worked really hard over the first four weeks and it was good for most of the players to get a good hit-out at a good tempo,” Aloisi said post-match.
“We gave a number of young players an opportunity and there was lots of good stuff.”
“The lights were good, the pitch was great, and for a lot of their boys, they wouldn’t have played on a surface like this in a long time,” the Roar boss said.
“They [Logan Lightning] worked hard and played some good stuff – we wanted to play a side like that, who tried to make it hard for us.
“We looked lively going forward. It was a good start to our pre-season.”
The Roar’s next match will be against fellow Hyundai A-League side Melbourne City, at Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium in next month’s FFA Cup Round of 32 clash
