Sydney FC have extended their unbeaten run in the A-League to 20 games, with a comfortable 3-1 win over Wellington Phoenix on Thursday at Allianz Stadium.
The home side scored twice during the first half before adding a third in the second, to extend their lead to 12 points ahead of the remaining four fixtures in Round 19.
Sydney scored their first goal within 180 seconds through Ryan Grant from an Alex Brosque cross which the defender headed downwards beating a diving Glen Moss.
Their second goal came in the 22nd minute as Grant turned provider, linking up intricately with Bobo, who turned home the return cross from the right-back to score is eighth goal of the season, one which could be a season contender.
Phoenix found the back of the net in the 32nd minute through Alejandro Rodriguez on a Gui Finkler corner, which Sydney goalkeeper Danny Vukovic could only palm into his own net.
But it was Milos Ninkovic who put the game to bed in the 54th minute after Brilliante seized on a loose ball and fed the Serbian, who then wrong footed Andrew Durante, to put the ball past Moss and into the far corner.
Speaking after the match Sky Blues boss Graham Arnold spoke of his teams performance.
“It was a fantastic performance, the first half especially was outstanding and that second goal was something like a training drill,” he said.
“On another night we could have had five or six, but that’s where we’re aiming to be. “I keep saying we’re only 50, 60, 70% of where we’ll end up as a team.”
This latest loss has left Wellington Phoenix in 8th place of the Hyundai A-league table and with only eight rounds remaining they are desperately battling for a spot in the top six.
